Hello!

The Bandwagon is a space to explore baseball through culture and fandom. Or to explore culture and fandom through baseball. It’s the new home for content from us — Hannah Keyser and Zach Crizer. (Yes, we’ve noticed our names rhyme.)

Us, mid championship champagne celebration for the Texas Rangers in 2023. Notice Zach looks notably less soggy than Hannah.

The Bandwagon used to be a digital video show and later a podcast at a sports media outlet that, legally, we can’t name here. That’s where we met. A couple of baseball-obsessives making content and getting smarter about the sport through constant conversation. We kept talking about baseball after getting laid off (together, at least!) and so now The Bandwagon is back as a newsletter and community hub for fans who want to fan smarter.

What does bandwagoning mean to us? All the interest and investment of fandom, but with curiosity instead of closed mindedness. The conventional wisdom goes that to cover a sport professionally, you have to abandon your rooting interest. But even as professional baseball writers, we always found ourselves rooting for something: good people, good stories, good weather, good food. We don’t think it made the coverage worse to care, and we don’t think expertise is incompatible with emotional connection. But that connection? It doesn’t have to be hard-won or battle-tested or wielded like a cudgel to keep people out.

The Bandwagon is baseball without gatekeeping. We’d love to have you aboard.

Why subscribe?

So we can be in your inbox three times a week with a mix of original reporting, analysis, opinion, and curation. We’re here to celebrate and interrogate the sport we love. It won’t be exhaustive, or everything-you-need-to-know, or chasing residual clicks from headlines made elsewhere. It’ll be whatever is actually interesting to us in baseball (and maybe a little bit beyond).

Every issue will include some free content and some content (maybe it’s the best stuff?) for members only.

Paid subscriptions make it possible to devote more time, energy, and effort to this project, which it turn makes for a better product.

One more thing: We want to write what you want to read. You can always leave a comment if you have something to say about a specific newsletter. But you can also email us at hellobandwagon@gmail.com if you have a tip or a story idea or a question. Or if you just want to say hello.
